Stuffed Sausage Centerpiece

So this was nice! We all sat down to dinner as a family and, not only was there absolutely no whining and moaning about teeny, tiny, microscopic bits of ‘yukky’ they don’t like, there were actually calls, all round, for seconds and even thirds! This even encouraged them to eat the peas and sweetcorn, which my eldest has a rather love-hate relationship with! We all finished dinner with smiles and healthy blood pressure. Success!

You can make this from scratch, and I will be doing a recipe for that soon, but many people struggle finding some quick and easy, yet impressive, ideas for dinner that will suit everyone, and be substantial enough to fill up the little ones! So here is my easy breezy quick and easy showstopping centerpiece!

Sausage mix
Stuffing mix
Puff Pastry
Black Pepper
Oil for brushing

Firstly, pre-heat the oven to 200c, make up both your mixes according to the packet instructions, and set aside to cool for 10 minutes. The Stuffing should now be a little more solid, which will help! Spoon the stuffing onto some non-stick paper, and mould into a long sausage shape! Pop it into the oven to cook for about 15 minutes, or until it is firm on the outside.

Then comes the messy bit! Let it cool for 10 minutes, spoon the Sausage Mix all over the Stuffing, and pop it back in for another 15 minutes, or until it’s firmer on the outside!

Now you need to get it onto a wire rack. The best way to do this, is to pick it up by the brown paper, and keep it on the brown paper! Slide it onto the rack, and get it in the fridge for another 10 minutes, so it is cool enough for the Pastry work!

Next, roll out your Pastry, slide the Stuffed Sausage in the centre and get creative! I decided to slice thin ribbons from the shorter ends to use as decoration on top once I had folded the edges up. You can do whatever pattern you like. If you have enough Pastry, you can do a plait if you’re feeling fancy!

Now, simply brush the whole thing with some Oil, season with Black Pepper, and get it in the oven until it’s beautifully browned! This should take around 20-30 minutes.

And there you have it! With hardly any effort, a tremendously huge Stuffed Sausage Centerpiece to be proud of!

All that’s left to do is add your vegetables and lashings of gravy, and get munching!

Eat up!
